    He received his bachelor of science degree from the University of North Dakota in 1928 and a medical degree from the University of Nebraska in 1932.
    In 1944, as a colonel at the age of 36, he landed on the Normandy beachhead to oversee medical care for the invasion forces.

    After World War II, as an Army suregon in the Alaska territory, he successfully battled a 1953 tuberculosis epidemic among the Indians and Eskimos.

    From 1960 to 1963, as director of health in the Panama Canal Zone, he obtained funding and began building the new Gorgas Hospital, and was awarded the Legion of Merit.

    Bill is a graduate of the University of North Dakota and the Indiana University School of Law. He spent his entire career in the service of his country. He served extensively in the active Army and retired from the Army Reserve as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Judge Advocate General's Corps. He served as a civilian attorney for the Army in the Boston area and, for the last 18 years, at White Sands Missile Range.
