  Historie	Don and Grace, along with their two young children, Dale and Joan, spent a year studying French in Paris. After that, they began well over 30 years of mission work for the American Lutheran Church (later the ELCA) in West Africa, working in Cameroon, Nigeria, and Niger. Don's duties included training pastors, directing primary schools, teaching adult literacy, making Christian radio broadcasts, supervising agricultural projects, building and staffing medical dispensaries, doing linguistics, and more. More recently the Flatens served parishes in Lodgepole, NE; Dazey/ Rogers, ND; Grafton, ND; and Wykoff, MN
